What counts as LARC
LARC methods are fitted or inserted and then work for an extended period.
- Hormonal IUDs
- Copper (hormone-free) IUDs
- The contraceptive implant (placed under the skin of the arm)
Why they're highly reliable
Because LARC doesn't depend on daily or weekly action, there's little that can go wrong day to day. This is why these methods are among the most effective available.
Reversibility
LARC is reversible. The device or implant can be removed when you choose, and fertility generally returns afterwards, so LARC suits both long-term contraception and spacing pregnancies.
